Every week Matt watches too much TV. He says he does it as a public service to all of us, so that we know what to watch and what not to watch, but his wife my disagree. Here is what Matt watched this week!
CHEER (ON NETFLIX)
Every week my wife gets recommendations from Netflix for shows ‘she will love,’ which we always laugh about because our personal tastes couldn’t be more different. She loves Hallmark, and I love Quentin Tarentino. BUT, every now and then, there is a recommendation that we both enjoy together and the new series ‘Cheer’ is one of them!
Cheer follows one of the top Cheer Squads in the country and will completely redefine how you perceive “Cheerleaders.” Yes, they look gorgeous on the sidelines of sporting events, but the REAL talent, skill, athletic abilities, and very high risk of injury comes at the competition level. It is fascinating to learn about an entirely new world that most of us didn’t know existed, and fine a new respect for just how amazingly talented and brave ‘Cheerleaders’ really are.
Verdict: Watch it!
Rhythm + Flow
This show has been up for a minute on Netflix, but I highly recommend watching it. I walked away with a new love for Cardi B, and T.I. (despite the bizarre headlines about his daughter’s gynecology appointments WTH!?). The show features a number of high profile guest judges and the talent competition is through the roof!
Verdict: Great Sunday Binge – Watch it!
Joaquin Phoenix has already walked away with a Golden Globe for his performance as ‘Joker,’ perhaps the most infamous villain in comic book history, and the Oscar buzz is strong – and deserved. If you missed this movie in theaters it is on demand now to rent, which works out great because you can fast forward through the couple of violent/graphic scenes and still thoroughly enjoy this movie! We did that with my wife and she said “That was brilliant, and I don’t use that word often for movies”
Verdict: A Must Watch!
This show has been around for a minute too, but it took me awhile to get around and give it a try. It’s definitely worth it. The show has dry humor and characters you learn to love, and with the comedy genius of Eugene Levy and his son, Daniel Levy, as the show’s creators and stars you can’t go wrong! The new season is here and if it’s the final one you have plenty of catching up to do!
